Manchester Radio

BBC Radio Manchester is in a modern building that also houses a TV station. The reception is bright and welcoming.

The goal is this Network Production Center, where a state-of-the-art music recording studio has been established.

A visit to BB Radio Manchester, surrounded by endless green grass and a sprawling, modern building, is no surprise, as the building not only houses a local TV studio but also a network production centre that distributes programmes across the UK.

“The decision to establish this new centre, consisting of a hall and recording studio, was made in 1972. Since then, the BBC Research Department has carried out research and development there, and the centre was completed in 1980, which means last January,” says Roger Dowling, director of the centre.

As a result, the ceiling was set at 7m and the reverberation time was 2.

“The design of the hall involved building an 1/3-scale model of the building and conducting years of acoustical studies before deciding on a height of 1.25 seconds, and construction began in 1978,” continued Ken Gregory.
