The woofer is made of Bextrene, a material that replaces paper!!!
Spendor’s speaker lineup currently consists of two series: the BC series and the SA series. The BC series has three types: BC-, BC-I, and BC-III, while the SA series currently has only one type: the SA-1.
As mentioned earlier, the BC-I was Spendor’s first model and is used as a monitor speaker by the BBC.
“Unfortunately, I’m not commercially available, but I am,” Spencer said.
The model number “BC” somehow reminded me of “BBC”, so I asked about it, and he said, “Hahaha. Now that you mention it, they are similar, but they’re different. The B in BC stands for the Bextrene diaphragm used in the woofer, and the C stands for the C of a company called Celestion, which uses it in the tweeter.
The BC-II has almost the same closure size, unit configuration, and design.
The BC-II’s unit configuration is a three-way system consisting of a 20cm diameter Bextren woofer, a Celestion HF1300 tweeter, and a Celestion STC4 001G super tweeter. The BC-III is a larger four-way system based on a 30cm diameter woofer.
*The material Bextrene was born as a result of research and development by the BBC Research Department into a diaphragm that could replace paper. Of course, Spencer was also involved in the research into Bextrene during his time at BBC Research. The BBC monitor speaker that was born at that time was the LS5/1967.
“The starting point for making speakers is the reproduction of voices, and accurate sound,” says Spencer, whose philosophy directly represents the philosophy behind BBC monitor speakers.
