His son, Derek, is devoted to the Spendor SA series.
Momentum to overtake Spencer!!!
If Spendor is the complete book that Spendor and Dorothy created, then their son, Derek Hughes, is also involved in Spendor’s product development. He is involved in the development of the SA series speakers and amplifiers.
The SA series has only had one small monitor speaker called the SA 1 until now, but Derek seems happy about it.
Derek Hughes, 34, works on the SA series and amplifiers at Spendor. He is currently engrossed in the creation of the new SA-2 and SA-3.
He showed me two different models of speakers.
“We’ve just finished them. They’re the latest models in the SA series, the SA-2 and SA-3. The SA-3 was made with the aim of producing the same sound as the BC-I that my father made, but with the ability to withstand greater power. This should be sufficient for use in a large monitor room. Oh, it’s not. We’ve already received an order from a broadcasting station in West Germany, and we need to make seven pairs immediately,” he said calmly.
However, I can’t hide my joy.
The most urgent task at present is to complete the power amplifier for the SA-3.
The SA 3 that Derek is currently working on is not a two-way system with a built-in network, but a multi-(bi)amp system with an electronic crossover network. For this reason, a dedicated power amplifier 6 is Derek’s creation.
With a crossover frequency of 1.7KL,

The amplifier is an SA-3EX. By combining the amplifier and speaker, you can achieve a consistent sound without any compatibility issues.
In addition to this amplifier, there is the M 50, a 50W monaural power amplifier for incorporation into the BCII, and the RB 350, a stereo version of the M-50 used by a West German broadcasting station. Incidentally, more than 250 Spendor speakers are used for monitoring purposes at the West German broadcasting station. Also, there is a 40W+10W preamplifier.
The main amplifier D-10 is also being made.
